Tours for 2012
From Libya to North Korea
It’s been a great year for Political Tours with trips to North Korea, Georgia, Bosnia and Turkey. In the next few months we will be expanding our list of destinations and looking at some major events that have unfolded around the world.
2012 will take us to the heart of the Arab Spring with visits to Libya and Egypt. Closer to home we are creating a series of tours that will look at the economic crisis in the UK and Europe. There will still be visits to the Balkans and the Caucasus. Turkey will feature too and we are hoping to visit Cyprus by next autumn.
Last but not least we have introduced a new Day Tour service which gives people access to our analysts and guides where and when they want.
Here are some highlights from some of those destinations:
Libya
In October, Political Tour’s director, Nicholas Wood undertook a recce of Libya where we plan to start tours this coming spring. At first these will be reserved for institutional clients. The security situation is still a little uncertain largely due to “celebratory gunfire” – people shooting into the air. When we open the tour up to all our clients it will include visits to a Tripoli neighbourhood, Misrata and meetings with local councils, senior politicians and international officials. While large numbers of weapons remain on the streets, possibly the bigger issue is the enormous political void that exists throughout the country with the exception of Benghazi. We will be releasing full details shortly.
The Financial Crisis
Political Tours will soon release details of a tour that looks at the origins of the economic crisis and its impact on the UK economy. The tour will start in the Thames Estuary, and cover the City of London as well as several areas hit hard by budget cuts and the climate of uncertainty.
Political Tours plans to visit the DPRK at least twice this year. Our first tour in 2012 runs from April 7th - 17th. This trip will coincide with the 100th Anniversary of the birth of Kim-Il-Sung, a major date for the North Korean leadership which will be marked by mass celebrations.
The BBC’s former Chief Foreign Correspondent will kick off our next Bosnia tour which we expect to confirm for the end of May. The former US diplomat and author, Louis Sell, has agreed to lead the tour that includes visits to Mostar, Sarajevo and Belgrade.
We will be releasing details of several other destinations throughout the year. If you have any queries, please do call us on our number above, or click the Contact Us button to send us a written request.
